Southern Insurance Underwriters, Inc. (SIU) was established by W.C. Duesenberg in 1964 with the purchase of the Atlanta branch of Kurt Hitke and Company. At the time of inception, SIU primarily wrote non-standard automobile, taxi cabs and local/long haul trucks.

Today, SIU and all other affiliated companies under the parent company, Southern Insurance Companies, remains family-owned and operated. SIU offers a broad range of products and markets to over 2,500 independent insurance agents in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. From personal auto, personal property, commercial transportation, and commercial property & casualty, SIU can underwrite most any risk from the simplest property policy to highly sophisticated self-insured programs.
